01
Context and problem
A service start-up set out to connect vetted craftspeople with households for everyday work. The challenge: geographic relevance and trust, in a market where generic directories disappoint.
The problem
The early no-code versions collapsed: fuzzy geographic search, double bookings, lost messages. No serious fundraising was possible without a reliable platform.
02
The solution
We rebuilt the core of the system: a Node.js API, PostGIS geospatial search within a configurable radius, a transactional availability engine and realtime messaging — containerised and deployed on AWS with autoscaling.
Key features
Geolocated matching
PostGIS search within a configurable radius, weighted by rating and availability.
Transactional calendar
Slots are locked at booking time: zero double bookings.
Built-in messaging
Conversations, quotes and photos in one place, in real time.
Verified ratings
A review only exists if it is tied to a job actually carried out.
